Call to Worship (based on Psalm 107)

L: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.
P: Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those he redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
L: Thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.
P: For he satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry he fills with good things. He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground.
L: Come, let us worship the LORD!

Call to Worship:

As we gather to worship you, Almighty God, remind us that we are always in need of renewal. As you spoke to the Reformers of your Holy Church, speak to us, too, your living word of transformation. Help us earthen vessels to yield to the hands of the Master Potter. And renew our minds by the power of your Holy Spirit as we present ourselves in worship to you.

A Prayer for Courage

Almighty God, who gives strength to the weak and upholds those who might fall, give me courage to do what is right, for those that trust in you have no need to fear.

Make be brave to face any danger which may now threaten me. Give me the help that you have promised to those who ask it, that I may overcome my fears and go bravely forward.

Fill me with courage, that nothing which is my duty to do, may be too hard for me. Let me put my trust in your power and goodness.

Thank you my Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

L: God's love for the world has been revealed in Jesus Christ, who loved us to the uttermost.

P: Through Jesus' life God gave us an example and pointed us to the right way of living, a life of devotion to God and compassion for our neighbors.

L: Merciful God, we confess that so often our discipleship has been weak . . .

  • L When we have failed to serve as Jesus served;
    P: forgive us, o Lord.
                                          (silent prayer)

  • L: When we have failed to love one another as Jesus loves us;
    P: forgive us, o Lord.
                                           (silent prayer)

  • L: When we have been happy to proclaim our devotion to Jesus with our lips and then denied him by our actions;
  • P: forgive us, o Lord.
                                            (silent prayer)

  • L: When we have instructed others on God's commandments and then failed to live according to them ourselves;
  • P: forgive us, o Lord.
                                            (silent prayer)

  • L: Merciful God, empower us by your Spirit to be steady and true to you in every time of trial; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Strength in (Church) Leadership

Let us be leaders, O Lord, who are strong enough to know when we are weak and brave enough to face ourselves when we are afraid; who will know You, humbly follow you and trust you every step of our journey.

Let us learn to stand the storm, while we also have compassion for those who fall. Let our hearts be clear and our goals high.
Empower us to lead by example; to serve all those whom you have given into our charge. May we embrace your wisdom and the meekness of true strength. Amen.

Prayer For Genuine Faith
Attributed to Francis of Assisi

Most High, Glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of our minds.
Give us a right faith, a firm hope and a perfect charity,
so that we may always and in all things act according to
Your Holy Will. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

For the Mind of Christ
LORD, we pray for the mind of Christ. Help us understand that you do not ask for our help; you ask for us. Let us be yours completely, now and forevermore. Amen.
