Call to Worship (based on Psalm 104)

L: O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
P: Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great.
L: When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
P: May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works
L: Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

The Spirit creates new life within and among us.

God gives us a vision for a world of peace
People: May the glory of God endure forever.

Pentecost Prayer:

Almighty God, we your children pray: let your glory come down.
Let the Fire fall on us gathered here as on that first Day of Pentecost.
Revive our spirits, fill us with new excitement, with joy unspeakable
And compassion for a dying world.
Empower us to speak your Word; to utter your words of Life;
Using a variety of languages to bring the good news to the poor.
Lord, let your fire fall once again on this church, on this community,
On this country, and on all the families of the earth.
In Jesus name and in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Invocation of the Holy Spirit

Standing in the glorious light of the resurrection, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who wait for the Spirit's revealing power.

Come to your church and inflame the hearts of your people to convey your love faithfully and boldly to the world. We pray:

Come, Holy Spirit.

Come from the four winds, O Breath of God, and breathe your peace into the hearts of every nation, that violence and war may cease in all the world. We pray:

Come, Holy Spirit.

Come and let your healing breath surround the sick (especially), that they may be given new life and new health. We pray:

Come, Holy Spirit.

Come and let the new wine of your presence give us vision as we gather at your table of mercy, there to be strengthened and sent into the world empowered with your good news. We pray:

Come, Holy Spirit.

Come and intercede for those who groan in grief, that together with all your blessed saints, they might be united by your Spirit with those for whom they mourn. We pray:

Come, Holy Spirit.

Gracious God, hear our prayers and receive them for the sake of the crucified and risen one, our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen

Prayer for Pentecost

Holy Spirit, we thank and praise Thee for having come into our hearts to bring us to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior; for no man can say that Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Ghost. Through the years, Thou hast comforted us with the love of our God and with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As Thou didst lead the early disciples into all truth and didst give them the words which they wrote in the Holy Scriptures, so help us also through these same words to know that truth which is able to make us wise unto salvation. As Thou didst fill them with courage to speak of the wonderful works which have been done for the salvation of men, so help us also to speak of these same works to those still sitting in darkness, so that they, too, may find joy and hope in Jesus.

Comfort us in every time of temptation and trouble with the assurance of the forgiveness of our sins through the blood of the Lord Jesus. Continue to do the good work which Thou hast begun in us so that we may remain believers in our Savior and children of the heavenly Father until that day when we shall finally share in all the bliss and joy that has been prepared for us in our heavenly home, where we shall praise and thank Thee, together with the Father and the Son, through all eternity. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession for Pentecost Sunday

Rejoicing in the resurrection, let us remember in prayer the church, the world, and all those in need.

Come, Holy Spirit, poured out upon the whole church. Inspire us to prophecy, witness, and service, to new visions and dreams, that through our ministry the world might know of your love. For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

Come, Holy Spirit, to all the nations of the world. Inspire them to peace and to justice for their own citizens and for their enemies. For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

Come, Holy Spirit, bring peace to those in need, comfort to those who grieve, courage to the hopeless, and healing to those who are ill (especially). For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

Come, Holy Spirit, and inspire this congregation to the ministry of peacemaking in this community, that through our ministry reconciliation may be found. For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

Come, Holy Spirit, and inspire us in remembrance of those who gave their lives on battlefields for the sake of freedom. Lead us all to be generous with our lives for the sake of others. For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

Come, Holy Spirit, and at the last bring us together with all the faithful departed into the warm embrace of your presence. For this we pray:

Hear us, living God.

With alleluias in our hearts and on our lips we commend to your care all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Closing prayer

God of wind, word, and fire, we bless your name this day for sending the light and strength of your Holy Spirit.  We give you thanks for all the gifts, great and small, that you have poured out upon your children.

Accept our praise and let us be witnesses to your love to your love throughout all the earth through Jesus Christ, who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever.  Amen.
